Best Reviews / Reason for buying this book:
1.I read this book in January and applied the chewing methods and guidelines in this book. I chew 30 to 50 times per bite (depending on how dense the food is) and don't eat raw after 4pm. Eating dinner before 6 pm is tricky due to family schedule, but we eat as early as possible. I also don't drink anything while I'm eating, but love my water in between meals. In two months I've gone from a size 14 to a size 10. But more than that, I don't get heartburn anymore ( I used to get it at least 3 times a week), I barely have gas at all, and have a new energy that is steady and consistent throughout the day. I feel lighter, healthier, and I'm a great listener at mealtimes! ;-) I highly recommend giving this way of eating an earnest try. The benefits surpassed my expectations.
Update as of 3/17/17 - I have lost and kept off 50 lbs due to applying the concepts in this book. I am now a size 6/8 depending on the store. I still feel lighter and healthier and my skin has never looked better. This is truly my lifestyle now and I couldn't be more grateful for reading this book.
2. This is a life changer. The book makes sense on so many levels and I actually lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks and am steadily still dropping the weight! I highly recommend to anyone who wants to lose the extra pounds the healthy way and not by crazy fads.
3. I'm giving this book a five-star rating because it deserves it. I say this as one who has ordered many wonderful books from Amazon and I don't recall every having written a review before. However, I always read the reviews before I buy, and they steer me in the right direction. So here is my contribution to other researchers.
I have spent the last 30 years trying to figure out how and what I should eat in order to feel well. I've tried many of the approaches detailed in this book. What I was missing was the knowledge of how to integrate all the different aspects of eating well. In the process of reading and understanding the information in this book, I was also able to come to grips with a more fundamental question I've been struggling with, namely, what is the role of food in our lives. What should it be?
The authors pull together a lot of complicated information in simple language, and organize it very logically. So achieving an understanding of the concepts is simple. Doing it is another matter, and anything but simple. But that's because of a life-time of habits that are contrary to what my body needs. The more closely I am able to follow the Viva Mayr approach, the better I feel. It's all about what food we eat, how and when we eat it. The most exotic supplement suggested is the use of baking soda. In other words, be healthy without using supplements. Expensive or otherwise. It answers lot of questions: When to eat raw food, when to eat cooked food? What is the role of protein in weight management? How can we soothe digestive systems run amok? How much water do we need? When do we need it? How much food do we need? What is the role of fats in good health and energy and which are they? How can I access the powers contained in food for my own body's use?
I feel I've come to the end of my search. Life will be simpler from here on, as regards shopping for groceries, preparing and eating them. As regards consistent energy levels and so enjoyment of life in general. Quite possibly I will spend less time and money too, on food.
I recommend this book for people who are sincerely looking to feel well. And look good. I've been working with this approach for several months. My chiropractor was stunned at the turn-around in my digestive complaints in a few weeks. I noticed last night that my hair is becoming very shiny. I expect more benefits to follow.
